Please provide a copy of the guidance issued to council staff in the use of plastics, including but not limited to the placing of laminated public notices attached to lampposts, the use of cable ties for that and other purposes, and the guidance on the removal of all such materials and avoidance of their loss and consequent environmental damage. When providing this information please confirm the date of issue and how the dissemination to staff who maybe performing such tasks is confirmed.

Further, please provide a copy of the checking process employed to monitor that all such plastic materials have been retrieved and accounted for once their use is finalised.

Thank you for your request for information of 10/05/2019 which has been
processed in line with the terms of the Environmental Information
(Scotland) Regulations 2004. You asked the following:

Please provide a copy of the guidance issued to council staff in the use

When providing this information please confirm the date of issue and how
the dissemination to staff who maybe performing such tasks is confirmed.

Further, please provide a copy of the checking process employed to monitor
that all such plastic materials have been retrieved and accounted for once
their use is finalised.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with the information requested
as it is not held by the Council. The Council is therefore relying on the
exception under regulation 10(4)(a) of the Environmental Information
(Scotland) Regulations 2004.

Please note that this constitutes a formal notice under regulation 13 of
the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004.

o The Council actively supports recycling and reducing waste wherever
possible. Council buildings include recycling facilities for staff to
use in their everyday tasks.
o On 14 May, the Corporate Policy & Strategy Committee agreed an
ambitious target for Edinburgh to become carbon neutral by 2030 in a
[2]three-phased plan for delivering an ambitious and innovative
citywide approach to sustainability.
o A councillor working group on single use plastics is currently
reviewing this issue and we expect guidelines to emerge from this
activity.
o We are currently updating our sustainable procurement policy to
reflect key Council and Government aims around sustainability and
sustainability procurement practice. Once updated, this will be taken
to a Council committee for approval and be included in our [3]policy
register.
