Guidance for Registrars on interviewing couples wanting to get married or enter a civil partnership

The request was partially successful.

Dear General Register Office,

I am writing to request the guidance issued to Registrars for the conduct of interviews with couples wanting either to marry or enter a civil partnership.

Before two people are able to marry/ enter a civil partnership, the Registrar conducts an interview with them both individually and separately.

Given that these interviews must follow some sort of structure in order to serve any purpose, I would like to see the guidance document(s) that Registrars refer to.

I am not interested in information about other GRO functions such as births.

Finally, I am disappointed that these documents are not available online under a properly administered FOIA publication scheme.

Yours faithfully,

Stephen Wright
