GUARD redundancies
Dear University of Glasgow,
Can you please send me all of the management reports that you have in relation to the proposed redundancies at GUARD. Can you please send me the evidence that you have that GUARD loses the University money.
Yours faithfully,
Fraser Roberts

Quote from the report to Court
"GUARD employs over 30 staff and has a turnover of approximately £1.2M. It is anticipated to make a profit
of less that £50k in 2009/10 before making any contribution to Estates costs or other
central overheads. Over the last three years GUARD has been asked to make
surpluses of over £250k/year. The unit has consistently fallen short of this target.
One systemic problem is that University pay-scales make it difficult for GUARD to
make competitive tender bids against other commercial archaeological service
providers. This situation is very unlikely to change whilst GUARD remains part of the
University."
You really have to wonder what the purpose of Glasgow University - or the University of Tesco as its now known amongst senior academics - is for.
The cat is out of the bag with this statement.
"It is anticipated to make a profit
of less that (sic) £50k in 2009/10"
So its not that its making a loss, BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION ITS MAKING A PROFIT.
Its just that the University - like its sister organisation TESCO - needs bigger profits.
It would be funny if it weren't so serious.
