“Long before we could use astronomy apps on our smartphones, the ancients closely followed the position of the sun in
the sky. Thousands of years ago, many monuments and structures around the world were designed with the annual cycles
of the sun in mind, and some even align in special ways on the solstices and equinoxes.”

Many UK & worldwide organisations have sections on the Solstices & Equinoxes, see the UN one below & more.

“The solstices, together with the equinoxes, are connected with seasons, harvests and livelihood. Therefore, many cultures
celebrate various combinations of the solstices, the equinoxes, and the midpoints between them, leading to various holidays
arising around these events.”

“A time to celebrate trees
Whatever your beliefs, there is no better time to celebrate trees in all their glory with an uplifting walk in the woods. The
mud is drying up, we are (mostly) liberated from our wellies and, as the sun casts dappled light through new green leaves
on long summer days, it is easy to feel real wonder at the natural world. And, this year, if you would like to celebrate
midsummer by dancing around one of our oak trees, you will be very welcome!

“WINTER SOLSTICE FESTIVALS AND CELEBRATIONS AROUND THE WORLD
Winter solstice is also a day that has been celebrated around the world for thousands of years in many different cultures.
Some festivals include the Hopi Indian Festival of Soyal, the Polish celebration of Gody, Greece’s Brumalia celebration and
the Hindu celebration of Makar Sankranti.”

“Today, the celebration of the solstices is mostly strongly associated with Paganism. The Pagan festival of Litha is one of the
most important in the Pagan religion, commencing on the eve of the Summer Solstice it celebrates the midsummer and the
power of the sun god.”

“Celebrating the Seasons
The Solstices, Equinoxes, and mid-points between - - also known as the Cross Quarters - - have been celebrated by a variety
of Nature peoples around the world and across the ages. Today, Wiccans and other Pagans often blend together ancient as
well as contemporary approaches to celebrating these seasonal festivals.”
The list & possible examples goes on & on.
Many religions acknowledge Solstices & Equinoxes in different contexts. In fact, my limited research & understanding
couldn’t find many that did not mention one.
As a trial I added a Summer Solstice greeting to the Post Office Chat (UK) Facebook page this year. This received many
“Likes” & positive comments.
Don’t know what to write for a greeting, the below website has some great ideas for the winter solstice.

Just a quick request for help with an idea that's been rattling around in my head for a few months. Could you point me in the right direction for this,
please?
Could POL look into adding Solstice & Equinox greetings to it's media releases, please?
I've got some research & details that I can follow up with.
The one thing I've always thought POL was good at was it's inclusivity, with society always changing I think it's time for another addition.
cheers
