Greenhouse gas emissions from aviation

I request information regarding greenhouse gas emissions from aviation generated by your office’s work since 2015.

1. Actual figures showing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated by air travel by you, your staff, or your agents, listed by financial year (2015/16, 2016/17, 2017,18) together with the same figures for this operating year up to and including November 15 2019.
2. Details of each flight including:
a. The locations (flying from and flying to)
b. Number of passengers
c. Purpose of the trip
d. Who paid for the flights
e. Cost of the flights
3. Details of the carbon off-setting donations you have made listed by financial year (2015/16, 2016/17, 2017,18) together with the same figures for this operating year up to and including November 15 2019. Details should include:
a. The amount provided by your office to the off-setting agent (e.g. Size of Wales or Woodland Trust)
b. Documentation from your office to the off-setting agent (e.g. Size of Wales or Woodland Trust)
c. A copy of your off-setting policy and an explanation of how the value is calculated.
d. Details regarding how you selected your off-setting agent (e.g. Size of Wales or Woodland Trust)

Thank you for your request for information. Attached you'll find a PDF containing our responses to questions 1 and 2 and below is our response to question 3:

We have made no donation to off-set our carbon footprint to-date but we have committed to looking at the possibility of doing so as part of our new bio-diversity duties outlined in the Environment (Wales) Act. Key actions from our biodiversity plan will be published on our website by the end of this month, including any details of carbon off-setting.

If you are dissatisfied with this information, you have the right to request an internal review. All reviews are impartial and undertaken by a member of the Commissioner’s Management Team. Reviews will usually be completed within 20 working days following the date a request for review is received. In exceptional cases, the time for response may be extended to 40 working days.

Requests for internal review should be clearly marked, and can either be mailed to [Children's Commissioner for Wales request email] or sent by post to the following address: Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Oystermouth House, Charter Court, Phoenix Way, Llansamlet, Swansea SA7 9FS
