GREEN IT

The request was successful.

Dear Sirs

In the press this weekend it was announced that SEPA had been leaving 400 PC's on overnight, wasting around 90,000 kwh per year, the equivalent of 280 hours of flying a jet plane. In order to combat this they have now introduced a Power Management software product. As you are a Public Sector body in Scotland I would like to know;

How many PC's do you have in your organization?
Do you use a Power Management software product (not the operating system: this is inefficient)?
Contact details for the person responsible for Green issues / carbon reduction commitments?

Many thanks,

David Blades

Joanna Smart, Highlands and Islands Enterprise

Dear Mr Blades,

Thank you for your request for information received on 6^th June 2011.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has responded to your queries
below.

- How many PC'S do you have in your organisation?

HIE can confirm it has 202 Desktop computers and 109 Laptops.

- Do you use a Power Management software product?

Our IS guidance for new staff states that:

"In order to conserve energy, please turn off the power to your computer
when you leave the office, or if you expect to be away from your desk for
an extended period of time. You should also turn off the power to your
monitor (using the small button on the front of the display), as monitors
on `standby' can still consume a significant amount of electricity."

In addition to this, HIE is currently considering introducing a Power
Management software.

- Contact details for the person responsible for Green issues/carbon
reduction commitments?

The Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Mr Forbes Duthie, is
responsible for this area - contact details can be found on our website -
