Dear Mr Mathews
I am responding to your FOI request sent by e-mail on 05 September 2014.
You asked for the following information in relation to the ongoing highway
construction works at the Great North Road/Forsyth Road junction:
· When will the works under regen for the Great north road/forsyth
road be completed?
· When did the works start and how much is it projected to cost?
· Who is the contractor?
The response to each question is as follows:
“When will the works under regen for the Great north road/forsyth road be
completed?”
The majority of civil engineering works are programmed for completion by
30 September 2014. The resurfacing works to the carriageway need to be
withheld pending the implementation of the legal Traffic Regulation Orders
(TRO) required to implement the highway controls for the junction. These
works include raised crossings, road humps, modifications to parking
arrangements and double yellow road markings. This will ensure that all
outstanding works can be constructed during the same visit by the
surfacing contractor causing less disruption. The TRO process is ongoing,
with the end of the formal objection period programmed for 08 October
2013. Subject to appeal the surfacing works can be implemented after that
date.
“When did the works start and how much is it projected to cost?”
Works started on 30 June 2014 and the anticipated cost is £219,000. This
includes new footways and traffic islands, road resurfacing, traffic
signal equipment, street lighting modifications and temporary and
permanent TROs.
“Who is the contractor?”
Newcastle City Council’s Highway Maintenance & Operations (civils),
Rainton Construction (surfacing), SSE Ltd (street lighting).
You also asked “When will works on city stadium park be completed?”
The works are programmed for completion by 30 September 2014. The
installation of pieces of public artwork are currently ongoing.
