Dear Cambridgeshire Constabulary,
I note from recent media reports that the Great Eastern Run, due to start at 10.30 am on Sunday 13th October 2019, was cancelled at the last minute , and Cambridgeshire Police tweeted: "We were called at 9:50am this morning with reports of a man acting suspiciously in Alexandra Road, Peterborough close to the route of the @PerkinsGER. This information was passed to the race director who made the decision to cancel the race".
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/10125721/g...
Race organisers have apologised for cancelling the event, saying "In the interest of safety for our participants we took the decision to cancel the half marathon half an hour after its original start time because of Police information that a man was acting suspiciously close to the route".
The Sun reported " cops later said that while the witness who reported the man had acted in good faith, they had “misinterpreted” what they saw. They said no arrests were made".
It is a shame the event was called off but I would appreciate knowing more detail of the circumstances.
FOI Q1.The police were notified of a possible incident on Alexandra Road at 9.50am, please advise of what time officers arrived at the scene, how many offers arrived, what was their means of transport, were armed police called, and when did the final officer depart the scene?
FOI Q2.Please advise what was the actual nature of the issue as suspected, and what was the reality of the incident after investigation, to understand what caused the misunderstanding?
FOI Q3.Please advise who contacted the race organisers to warn them of a possible incident, what time the organisers were originally warned and what time they were given the all clear?
FOI Q4.Was this a police controlled event and, if so, how many officers were dedicated to the event and who was the Gold Commander?
Thanking you in anticipation.

Yours faithfully,

Dennis Fallon (BScHons)
