Dear Mr Grant

grass cutting policy on council land and programme for Constance Avenue
area

We have now considered your request and a copy of the information is
attached below.

The information supplied may be used for domestic or journalistic
purposes. Its use for commercial gain including issuing to the public,

1.    What Council Division sets the policy on grass cutting on Council
Land

Response: The Planning Department via the Greenspace Strategy.

2.    Are Councillors involved in any way in endorsing the policy and if
so , how.

Response: Yes, the revised Greenspace Strategy is to be presented to
Cabinet in July 2018 for approval.

3.    What is the cutting frequency and associated maintenance policy
arising from (1) above.

Response: The strategy sets out a pyramid of hierarchy in terms of
management and maintenance as shown below:-

Cutting frequencies vary in line with the above hierarchy, a premium park
such as Burslem Park will have its grass cut once a week, a formal park
approx. every 3 weeks and a green corridor approx. every 6 – 8 weeks.

4.    How does 3 apply to the policy relevant to the areas of public right
of way alongside Longton Brook in parallel with Constance Avenue Trentham
(ST4]

Response: This location is classed as a greenway/corridor and will
therefore be cut every approx. every 6- 8 weeks.

5.    What performance indicators are used to ensure the efficacy of the
policy.

Response: The performance is monitored by Grounds and Cleansing Team
Leaders and Area Managers.

6.    What proportion of the grass cutting budget is applied to the area
described at 4 above

Response: This cost forms part of a larger budget and we are unable to
drill down to the level you require.
