Granting of Planning Permission to fell the Silver Birch tree located at the St Mary's Road moorings, Tewkesbury

The request was partially successful.

Dear Tewkesbury Borough Council,

I refer to planning application number 21/00894 and the proposal to remove a silver birch tree "due to wall collapse". This planning application was submitted by Tewkesbury Town Council and refers to their moorings in St Marys Road, Tewkesbury.

In respect to the said planning application, and subsequent felling of the tree on Friday 13th August 2021, I respectfully request that you send me information of the following:

a) All E mails, minutes of any official and unofficial meetings , diary entries, deliberations, records of any telephone conversations and all other information relating to the said planning application.

b) All telephone records , E mails, minutes of any meetings, diary records and other records of any contact between employees and councillors of Tewkesbury Borough Council and Tewkesbury Town Council regarding the said planning application. ( otherwise than the above in section a)

c) Detailed evidence leading to your conclusion that the retaining wall had somehow "collapsed" (my own photographic evidence would suggest otherwise)

d) Reports from third parties which provided "evidence" that the roots of the Silver Birch were the reason why the retaining wall had "collapsed" (sic)

e) Reasons why alternatives to felling the said tree were never contemplated.

f) How felling a perfectly healthy tree next to the Back of Avon fits in with the Borough Council's long term plan to alleviate the effects of flood risk in Tewkesbury Town.

g) Reasons why no site advertisement was ever posted in the vicinity of the Town Council mooring which would have alerted me to the fact that planned permission had been applied for by Tewkesbury Town Council.

h) Reasons why Natural England ( which manages the adjoining Ham SSSI) and the River Avon Trust were never consulted about the said planning application.

i) Any other material information you consider pertinent to this FOI

Yours faithfully,

Steve Shipton
