Graduation Plans for 2020 and 2021 Students

Kamran Ali made this Freedom of Information request to University of Bristol

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

We're waiting for Kamran Ali to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear University of Bristol,

I am writing to make an open government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I have an interest in how you have approached your graduation ceremonies during the Coronavirus pandemic. Please could you answer the following:

1) For your students who graduated in 2020, have they had an in-person graduation yet?

2) If no to question 1., are there plans to have an in-person graduation, when restrictions have been lifted? If so, will they be the same as previous cohorts (2019, 2018, etc.) and when are they currently planned for?

3) For your students who are due to graduate in 2021, will they have an in-person graduation? If no, what are your plans for these students?

Yours faithfully,

Kamran Ali

Dear Kamran Ali,

Freedom of Information Request (our reference FOI21-258)

We refer to your Freedom of Information request dated 11^th May. We
apologise for the delay in responding. In line with government advice, the
University has put in place measures to protect staff and students during
the current Covid-19 pandemic, including staff working from home. We hope
you will appreciate that this has led to some unavoidable disruption and
we regret that we have not been able to respond to requests as quickly as
we would wish.

You requested the following information:

“I have an interest in how you have approached your graduation ceremonies
during the Coronavirus pandemic. Please could you answer the following:

1) For your students who graduated in 2020, have they had an in-person
graduation yet?

2) If no to question 1., are there plans to have an in-person graduation,
when restrictions have been lifted? If so, will they be the same as
previous cohorts (2019, 2018, etc.) and when are they currently planned
for?

3) For your students who are due to graduate in 2021, will they have an
in-person graduation? If no, what are your plans for these students?”

University’s Response

Further to Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the “Act”) we
confirm that the information requested is partially held by the University
of Bristol (the “University”).

1. February 2020 cohort did. July 2020 cohort did not.

2. Yes, all students were told that they will be able to return for a
graduation ceremony. How exactly they may look is too early to tell due to
the ongoing pandemic, but we hope that they will all take place in Spring
2022.

3. They will have one when we are able to safely hold these. Again, this
will hopefully be in Spring 2022.
