Dear Heriot-Watt University,
I am writing to make an open government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
I have an interest in how you have approached your graduation ceremonies during the Coronavirus pandemic. Please could you answer the following:
1) For your students who graduated in 2020, have they had an in-person graduation yet?
2) If no to question 1., are there plans to have an in-person graduation, when restrictions have been lifted? If so, will they be the same as previous cohorts (2019, 2018, etc.) and when are they currently planned for?
3) For your students who are due to graduate in 2021, will they have an in-person graduation? If no, what are your plans for these students?
Thank you for your information request dated the 9^th May 2021. We are a
Scottish Higher Education Institution and are accountable to the Office of
the Scottish Information Commissioner, the Scottish Funding Council and
ultimately the Scottish Government. Your request has therefore been
handled under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA).
As you may have seen as part of your research, information about future
ceremonies can already be found at
If we can hold in person ceremonies in November/December this year, they
will be for 2020 and 2021 graduates and the proposed dates are included in
the link above. There may be some differences to the format of winter
ceremonies this year due to ongoing restrictions/social distancing so at
this stage we cannot confirm if they will be the same as in previous
