Grade Statistics for Statistics Department
Dear University of Warwick,
Under the rules set out by the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following statistics:
The number of students studying the Data Science MSci or BSc that achieved over a 70% average (compared to the number of students studying the course), and also an 80% average for all students sitting their 2nd year in the 2022-23 cycle. I would also like to request this information for all courses combined in the Department of Statistics (i.e. Data Science, MORSE and Maths and Stats) in the 2022-23 cycle, and separately the same information for those students sitting their 1st year in the 2022-23 cycle.
Thanks for your assistance.
Yours faithfully,
SJ

Hi Saami
Thank you for your request to access information from the University of
Warwick.
To comply with your request, please clarify the following:
• Please confirm your full name (section 8(1)(b) of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 requires you to provide your full name when
making an FOI request)
• The number of students studying the Data Science MSci or BSc – do you
want this information separately for each route or as one figure for
both?
• that achieved over a 70% average (compared to the number of students
studying the course - do you want the numbers on the course as well,
or do you mean you want the % who obtained 70% or more?
• and also, an 80% average – do you mean similar numbers for those who
got 80% or more? i.e. by “80% average” do you mean those who
“obtained 80% or more” ?
• for all students sitting their 2nd year in the 2022-23 cycle - do you
want their second-year average or final year average or overall
average? To note, if they were second years in 2022-23 we will not yet
have the final results for MSci.
• I would also like to request this information for all courses combined
in the Department of Statistics – please confirm what you mean by
combined/what data you are expecting to receive. Do you mean number or
%, by combined, combining BSc with Masters for each subject, or do you
mean combining degrees into one figure (BSc Data Science, MSci Data
Science, MMORSE, MORSE, BSc MathStat, MMAthStat – all as one figure)?
Or just as you list Data Science, Maths and Stats, MORSE BSc but not
including the Masters students (MSci Data Science, MMORSE and
MMathStat – as you did not list those). Would you also confirm if you
want their second-year average?
• and separately the same information – please confirm whether you want
second year mark only or first year average?
• for those students sitting their 1st year in the 2022-23 cycle - do
you want their 22-23 year results only or those who were in the 1^st
year in 22-23 but their second year results for this year
23-24. Please note, if you want any results for this year, it will
ignore any results from resits during the September period etc.
We will be unable to progress your request until you have provided the
requested clarification; and the 20 working days timeframe for us to
provide a response will not begin until we have received your
clarification.
If we do not hear from you, we will close your request in 20 working
days.
Kind regards
Legal and Compliance Services

Hi,
My full name is Saami Jaffer.
In response to each clarification:
1. I would like the number of students separately studying Data Science on each route.
2. I would like the number of students achieving said grade compared to the total number on the course.
3. Similarly to 2, I would like the number of students achieving 80% or more compared to the total number on the course.
4. I would like their second-year average.
5. I mean number as opposed to percentage, and combining the BSc with the masters for each subject, but keeping the subjects separately. I would again like their second year average.
6. I would again like the second year average only.
7. I would like the second year averages to be considered for the 23-24 year, not the first year ones.
Thanks for the assistance, it is much appreciated!
Yours sincerely,
Saami
