GPS tagging of knife crime on licence
Dear Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime,
I would like to request information regarding the GPS tagging, Knife Crime on Licence Pilot, led by MOPAC. I see the scheme has been extended into next year.
1. According to the Signed Decision File, a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) and a Equality Impact Analysis document have been completed in relation to the pilot. Please could you provide me with the latest version of these documents.
2. Could you confirm the number of GPS tags that have been imposed since the beginning of the pilot.
3. Could you provide updated information on the age and ethnicity of tag wearers since the beginning of the pilot.
4. How many crimes have been processed and how many intersected since the scheme launched in November 2019?
5. How many people have been recalled to prison compared with those who haven't? Please send any historical data on reoffending.
6. How many crimes have been prosecuted since the crime mapping began?
7. Please provide information on the number of crime reports that have been uploaded for crime mapping and the number of automatic matches that have been made and examined so far. Finally, how many of these have led to a "significant match" and convictions?
Many thanks,
Nicola

Dear Nicola
Please accept my apologies for the delay in your FOI response. We have experienced delays due to the mourning period and Bank Holiday. I hope to be able to send you the full response early next week.
Again please accept my apologies.

Dear Nicola
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request of 22 August to the Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC). I apologise for the delay in replying to you. I confirm that your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and that MOPAC does hold some information relating to your requests. Please see responses below.
1. According to the Signed Decision File, a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) and a Equality Impact Analysis document have been completed in relation to the pilot. Please could you provide me with the latest version of these documents.
Please find attached - 02 and 03. Redactions have been made under Section 40 of the FOIA Personal Information - this is an absolute exemption, therefore no Public Interest Test is required.
2. Could you confirm the number of GPS tags that have been imposed since the beginning of the pilot.
943 cases have had GPS monitoring conditions added to their licence as part of the knife crime pilot since it started.
3. Could you provide updated information on the age and ethnicity of tag wearers since the beginning of the pilot.
Please see attached - 01
4. How many crimes have been processed and how many intersected since the scheme launched in November 2019?
See answer to question 7 below, this is the same data.
5. How many people have been recalled to prison compared with those who haven't? Please send any historical data on reoffending.
So far 822 cases have completed their GPS monitoring period. Of these 282 cases were recalled and 540 successfully completed their monitoring period without recall. The pilot does not keep or process any historical data on reoffending.
6. How many crimes have been prosecuted since the crime mapping began?
MOPAC does not hold this information - data on prosecution and the outcomes of investigations is held by the Metropolitan Police Service.
You can send your FOI request directly to them, using this link: http://www.met.police.uk/foi/ or using this email address: [email address]
7. Please provide information on the number of crime reports that have been uploaded for crime mapping and the number of automatic matches that have been made and examined so far. Finally, how many of these have led to a "significant match" and convictions?
Crimes uploaded - 185,712
Automated matches (all of these are individually assessed) - 2,716 Significant matches - 75 Convictions - As 6 above, this is data held by MPS, not MOPAC, and you can send your FOI request directly to them, using this link: http://www.met.police.uk/foi/ or using this email address: [email address]
If you are unhappy with the response to your Freedom of Information request, please see the MOPAC website on what the next steps are at: https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/may...
Kind regards, Julia
