Government spending

David Heather made this Freedom of Information request to HM Treasury This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, HM Treasury should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Her Majesty’s Treasury,

I see from a recent communication from HMR&C that the largest percentage of my tax contribution to the nation's income is expended on benefits.

This is obviously a wide and essential topic in our national culture, but could I be given a broad breakdown of the percentage allocation of spending over major categories please?

Yours faithfully,

David Heather

If you're looking for an overview of the whole Government budget I like the pie charts on p5 of the budget :

There's a table on p23 of the latest DWP accounts breaking down spending on benefit payments to working age people, and one on p38 covering the state pension and benefits for those in retirement
