Government Funding
Dear Defence and Security Media Advisory Committee,
Under the Freedom of Information act, I would like to request the following information:
Please provide the amount of funding received from the government for the following tax years (20/21,21/22,22/23).
Yours faithfully,
Liam Porter
Dear Mr Porter,
Thank you for your e-mail requesting information on the amount of funding
received from the government for tax years 20/21,21/22 and 22/23.
The aim of the DSMA Notice System is to prevent inadvertent public
disclosure of information that would compromise UK military,
counter-terrorist and intelligence operations, methods, or capabilities;
put at risk the safety of those involved in such operations; or lead to
attacks that would damage the critical national infrastructure and/or
endanger lives. The system is voluntary, it has no legal authority and the
final responsibility for deciding whether or not to publish or broadcast
rests solely with the editor or publisher concerned.
DSMA Notices are issued by the DSMA Committee. This is an independent,
advisory body composed of senior civil servants representing government
departments concerned with national security and media representatives,
including editors of national and regional newspapers, periodicals, news
agencies, broadcasters, digital news, and book publishers. The DSMA
Committee is supported by a Secretariat of one full-time and three
part-time civil servants funded by the Ministry of Defence. This includes
one part time administrative assistant.
The five standing DSMA Notices are listed here (www.dsma.uk). The DSMA
Committee Secretariat offers advice to editors and journalists on specific
matters, often following their requests for advice, and if necessary, may
occasionally issue supplementary DSMA notice advice to editors.
Although as a non-public body the DSMA Committee is not subject to the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 or the Freedom of Information (Scotland)
Act 2002, it is committed to practising a policy of maximum disclosure
consistent with its aim of preventing the inadvertent public disclosure of
information that would compromise UK national security; and that the
subsequent advice is sought and given in confidence. Please see
www.dsma.uk for more information on the DSMA-Notice System.
Turning to your question, I am afraid that I do not know the amount of
funding received by the DSMA Committee from the Government. All budget
matters are controlled by the Government which I understand delegates
responsibility for this matter to the Ministry of Defence. May I suggest
you direct your question to the Ministry of Defence who should be in a
good position to give you accurate figures?
Kind Regards,
Geoffrey Dodds,
Brigadier (Retired) Geoffrey Dodds | Secretary | Defence and Security
