Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Please can you advise what the procedures are when a universal credit customer requests to go abroad for medical treatment in relation to section 11 of the Universal Credit Regulation 2013.

A) does this type of travel need to be pre-authorised before the customer leaves the UK? Or is the customer allowed to travel for one month before informing the DWP that they are in fact abroad for medical treatment that is likely to last longer than one month?
B) what kind of treatment is encompassed within the legislation?
C) what grounds do the decision makers have to refuse such a request for medical treatment abroad?
D)can a pregnant woman needing a CS-section request to travel abroad for this medical procedure and still be entitled to UC?
