Dear Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes,
I am aware that headway is being made in USA and likely here in UK for edible vaccines to be added to food and food stuffs.

Can you please inform me if any imported foods or food stuffs or home manufactured food or food stuffs do have such things as edible vaccines incorporated to them. Also can you provide information if this is planned for the future? Thankyou.

Good afternoon.

Thank you for your enquiry. The ACNFP do not hold any information on edible vaccines. This reflects that the remit of the ACNFP is to advice the FSA and FSS on food uses of genetic technology. We understand that an edible vaccine is likely to be classed as a medicine and therefore would be outside the scope of the ACNFP's remit.

We have shared your question with policy colleagues in the FSA and if they have anything further to add they will be in touch directly.
