GMC/panel sittings

Ann Reeves made this Freedom of Information request to General Medical Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear General Medical Council,

Since the hearing of Dr Jane Barton from June 2009 until January 2010 how many times have the following people sat on the panel for the GMC giving their valuable advice?

Mr A Reid, Chairman (Lay)
Ms J Julien (Lay)
Mrs P Mansell (Lay)
Mr W Payne (Lay)
Dr R Smith (Medical)

Let us not forget the case of Dr Jane Barton a woman whose hazardous prescribing, disregard for public safety and complete abuse of her position killed innocent people.

Let us not forget that it was the GMC’s standpoint that Dr Jane Barton should have been struck off due to the repeated findings of serious professional misconduct, to a criminal standard… yet they have a opt-out when Niall Dickson states;

“Niall Dickson, chief executive of the GMC, said: "Our view was the doctor's name should have been erased from the medical register following the panel's finding of serious professional misconduct’.

Yours faithfully,

Reeves family

It is as plain as a pikestaff that the GMC Panel's conclusions were politically controlled, and entirely consistent with the Prime Minister's statement in the House of Commons that 'there would never be another Shipman'. There can be no other explanation
