Glider Costs

The request was successful.

Dear Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company,

In response to a previous request on Glider costs you provided the breakdown as requested:

A. Glider vehicles £24m
B. Glider halts £6.2m
C. Glider real time information £1.3m
D. Glider off-vehicle ticketing £7.4m
E. Other (Infrastructure) £55.6m

I would like to get more detail.

1. Does the cost of the Glider vehicles (A. Glider vehicles £24m) just cover the cost of the actual articulated Glider buses bought from Van Hool or is some allocated to the Optare feeder buses operating Glider feeder services and how much did they cost? If not where does the cost of the Optare feeder buses operating Glider feeder services fall and how much did they cost?

2. Is the ticketing cost (D. Glider off-vehicle ticketing £7.4m) separate and additional to the £45m ticketing upgrade announced in Sep 2016?

3. Please provide a breakdown of all items above £500k that make up the E. Other (Infrastructure) £55.6m figure?

Yours faithfully,

Tony Woodford

FOI, Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company

Dear Mr Woodford,

Thank you for the further queries below relating to your Freedom of
Information request (our ref: FOI886) which were received on 7 February
2020.

Please find Translink's response to these as follows:

1. Does the cost of the Glider vehicles (A. Glider vehicles £24m) just
cover the cost of the actual articulated Glider buses bought from Van Hool
or is some allocated to the Optare feeder buses operating Glider feeder
services and how much did they cost?  If not where does the cost of the
Optare feeder buses operating Glider feeder services fall and how much did
they cost?

The £24.0m relating to BRT vehicles covered both the Glider vehicles & the
feeder vehicles. The project costs include the cost of vehicles, capital
spares, Testing & Commissioning costs and Translink Internal Costs.

2. Is the ticketing cost (D. Glider off-vehicle ticketing (£7.4m) separate
and additional to the £45m ticketing upgrade announced in Sep 2016?

The cost of the BRT Ticketing is included in the total cost (£45m) for the
new Translink Ticketing System.

3. Please provide a breakdown of all items above £500k that make up the E.
Other (Infrastructure) £55.6m figure?

Only £14.1m of the £55.6m relating to "Other" was incurred by Translink.

This £14.1m is broken down as follows:

-          £10.0m Milewater Service Centre

-          £4.1m BRT Programme Management & Commissioning

The remaining £41.5m was incurred by the Department of Infrastructure,
which is broken down as follows:

-          £2.2m Land Acquisition

-          £27.4m Infrastructure (Road Schemes & Transport Hub)

-          £1.0m Colin Town Connect Transport Hub

-          £3.2m Utilities Diversions

-          £4.0m Signalised Junctions

-          £1.8m Scheme Designs

-          £1.9m Consultancy Service

We trust this addresses your queries, however if you have any further
comments please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,
