Can you please disclose information regarding the council’s use of GIS/Map software? This includes any software the council uses that allows for the distribution and/or use of GI/Map data over an intranet or the internet for use and consumption by staff and/or the public.
Specifically, can you disclose:

1. The name & provider of any GIS/Map software
2. The number & types of license held for each individual GIS or Map software
3. The price of the licenses held
4. The renewal date or contract length of the licenses held

For Example:
Software: ArcGIS - ESRI, Number of Licenses: 15, Price: £xxxx.xx, Renewal Date: 01.01.2019
Software: Map Info – Pitney Bowes, Number of Licenses: 12, Price: £xxxx.xx, Renewal Date: 01.01.2019

Can you also please disclose the number of any specific GIS staff within the council and their job titles?

For example:
Total Number of GIS Staff: 4 GIS staff
Job Titles: 1 x GIS Manager, 3 x GIS Officers

I am writing to confirm that Middlesbrough Council has now completed its
search for the information you requested on 22.02.2018 in relation to
GIS/Mapping Software. Your request has been handled under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.   

 

In your request you asked for the following information:

 

The council’s use of GIS/Map software? This includes any software the
council uses that allows for the distribution and/or use of GI/Map data
over an intranet or the internet for use and consumption by staff and/or
the public.

 

Response:

 

1.    Specifically, can you disclose:

 

a.    The name & provider of any GIS/Map software

Cartology DSI and Cartology.net from Civica GIS and MapInfo professional
from Pitney Bowes.

b.    The number & types of license held for each individual GIS or Map
software

Cartology DSI - 41 licences; Cartology.net - site licence; and, Mapinfo
Pro 11 licences

c.    The price of the licenses held

The most recent annual maintenance payments were: Cartology DSI - £14k;
Cartology.net - £8k; and MapInfo Pro £2k

d.    The renewal date or contract length of the licenses held

We are about to cancel all the annual maintenance payments

 

2.    Can you also please disclose the number of any specific GIS staff
within the council and their job titles?

There are no specific GIS staff within the council. There is a Project
Officer with responsibility for corporate GIS co-ordination (approx. 0.3
FTE) and a planning officer who has a significant GIS element to their
role. Otherwise mapping and GIS activity is self-serve.
