GIS software used by Planning department

The request was successful.

Dear Carmarthenshire Council,

I note from a previous FOI request on WhatDoTheyKnow that the Council used a mix of GIS platforms in 2012 and intended to replace one of the proprietary products with an open source solution.

Please can you tell me which GIS platforms have been used by the Council's Planning department in Crescent Road, Llandeilo between 2004 and now?

For each product/solution, please could you describe whether this was/is operated in a client/server model with a centralised database or whether each installation operated standalone. In each case, who was/is responsible for maintenance?

Yours faithfully,

D Morris

FOIA, Carmarthenshire Council

Dear Mr Morris,

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 2^nd
December, 2016.

The specific information you requested was as follows:

“I note from a previous FOI request on WhatDoTheyKnow that the Council
used a mix of GIS platforms in 2012 and intended to replace one of the
proprietary products with an open source solution.

Please can you tell me which GIS platforms have been used by the Council's
Planning department in Crescent Road, Llandeilo between 2004 and now?

For each product/solution, please could you describe whether this was/is
operated in a client/server model with a centralised database or whether
each installation operated standalone. In each case, who was/is
responsible for maintenance?”

In response, the Council started to use Planweb in 2004. This was a
client/server model and maintenance was with GDC initially, which was then
taken over by Pitney Bowes.

The Council still uses Planweb, however, this is no longer a supported
product as it has been discontinued by Pitney Bowes, therefore we no
longer pay maintenance towards it.

Our current set up is Open Source, where our IT section have created
Geodiscoverer (internal web mapping) and iLocal 'My Nearest' (external web
mapping). Client/Server model. There is no maintenance required for this.

In addition, we also use MapInfo which is standalone and operated on
individual client machines.

Yours sincerely
