Dear Wan Ulfa Nur Zuhra

Freedom of Information Act 2000 request FOI/1520

Thank you for your recent request for information.

Your request and our responses:

1. Please inform me of the number of disciplinary actions taken against
students resulting in a fine and/or expulsion in the last five academic
years, the reasons for such action being taken, and the results of any
appeal.
Please see attached.
We are applying Section 40 (2) (Personal Information of a Third Party) of
the FOI Act 2000.  Providing a breakdown in the above categories, could
lead to the inadvertent disclosure of an individual’s identity.

2. In those academic years (2013 to 2017), How many of those are the case
where a ghostwriter involve? (for ex: assignment or dissertation were
written by somebody else)
Please see attached.
The University only defined ‘contract cheating’ in the 2017/2018 (see part
J2.4) of The Rights, Responsibilities and Regulations for Students on
Taught Programmes (3Rs) academic Offences.

3. How to find out that ghostwriter involvement since many ghostwriter
organisations offer the plagiarism checking?
Please see Part J1.3 (Academic Offences) of the 3Rs document which states
the student id required to demonstrate ownership of authorship during an
investigation into an alleged academic offence.

4. Is there any case where your staff involved in that unfair practice,
being a ghostwriter for the student? Please give the details about those
cases.
None.

To prevent the possibility of individuals being identified in the case of
small numbers, where there are between 1 and 4 individuals in a category
we have shown the figure as <5 in compliance with Section 40(2) of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. Our position is based on the advice
contained in the Information Commissioner’s Office Anonymisation Code of
Practice at

I would request this data in either Excel or CSV format or searchable PDF.
