3. How to find out that ghostwriter involvement since many ghostwriter organisations offer the plagiarism checking?

4. Is there any case where your staff involved in that unfair practice, being a ghostwriter for the student?

I would request this data in either Excel or CSV format or searchable PDF.

If you need any clarification then please contact me via email. Under your section 16 duty to provide advice and assistance, I would expect you contact me if you find this request unmanageable in any way.

InfoRequest, Cardiff University

Dear Wan Ulfa Nur Zuhra

I am writing in response to your Freedom of Information request dated
04/03/2018 in which you requested information regarding plagiarism.

For ease of reference, I have reproduced your questions below and set out
our corresponding responses.

1. Please inform me of the number of disciplinary actions taken against
students resulting in a fine and/or expulsion in the last five academic
years, the reasons for such action being taken, and the results of any
appeal.

The table below shows those students who have been expelled for conduct
reasons:

+------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Academic | Unfair | Student | Fitness to |Totals|
| Session | Practice |Discipline/Behaviour | Practise | |
|--------------+--------------+---------------------+-------------+------|
| 2012-13 | 1 | 1 |  0 | 2 |
|--------------+--------------+---------------------+-------------+------|
| 2013-14 | 2 |  0 | 2 | 4 |
|--------------+--------------+---------------------+-------------+------|
| 2014-15 | 1 |  0 | 3 | 4 |
|--------------+--------------+---------------------+-------------+------|
| 2015-16 | 1 | 3 |  0 | 4 |
|--------------+--------------+---------------------+-------------+------|
| 2016-17 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------+

We would advise that whilst the procedures allow for payment for damage to
be charged, we do not generally impose such charges on students due to
student hardship. In terms of appeals, we can confirm that only 1 of the
unfair practice expulsion decisions was appealed. The appeal was rejected
as the student did not appeal on one of the eligible grounds in the
procedure.

As there are such low number involved, to provide a greater level of
detail on the cases mentioned, would result in release of information from
which the individuals concerned may be identified.  This would be unfair
and a breach of the data protection principles and therefore section 40(2)
of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 applies.

2. In those academic years (2013 to 2017), How many of those are the case
where a ghostwriter involve? (for ex: assignment or dissertation were
written by somebody else)

Whilst the practice of ghostwriting falls within our unfair practice
procedures, we do not separately categorise ghostwriters and are not able
to provide any data in relation to this.

3. How to find out that ghostwriter involvement since many ghostwriter
organisations offer the plagiarism checking?

The University does not currently hold any information in regards to this
question.

4. Is there any case where your staff involved in that unfair practice,
being a ghostwriter for the student?

We do not have a record of any cases where a member of staff has been
implicated in ghostwriting.

I trust this information satisfies your enquiry.  The University has a
Freedom of Information Complaints Procedure should you feel dissatisfied
with this response or the way in which your request was handled.
Complaints must be made in writing and must set out why you believe the
University has not met its obligations under the Freedom of Information
Act.  You may email your complaint to [1][email address] where
