Geospatial data
Dear Network Rail Limited,
Could you make available the follow geospatial datasets, in vector format (e.g. ESRI shapefile), which are held within Network Rail?
1. Organisational boundaries for all routes, regions, maintenance delivery units (MDUs), track maintenance engineers (TMEs) and track section managers (TSMs)
2. The entire set of route, track link, track node, waymark and measure lines data as held within the Infrastructure Network Model (INM)
These are readily available within the GeoRINM Viewer, accessible internally within Network Rail.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Hicks

Dear Network Rail Limited,
Thank you for making the two shapefiles available. They do not contain all the data that was requested.
One of the files contains the network links dataset, and the other contains the network reference lines dataset. Neither appears to contain the organisation boundaries for routes, regions, MDUs, TMEs and TSMs, nor can I find the waymark or measure liness data within these files.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Hicks
Dear Peter Hicks
I sincerely apologise for our mistake in providing you with the incorrect
information in response to FOI202200526, and for the delay in addressing
your email of 27 May 2022. I will explain a bit more about what has
happened below.
After you made us aware of our mistake, I arranged to have a conversation
with the experts in our Asset Information team, who agreed that the
incorrect information had been supplied. We believe the issue to have been
caused when extracting geospatial data to our shapefile converter
programmes, which led to files being lost. We have remedied this and you
can now find the correct information via the following OneDrive link:
[1]Folder icon[2] FOI202200526
Please note that the organisational boundaries are contained in folder 1
and the network model is contained in folder 2.
In this instance, we have not handled your email as an internal review of
FOI2022/00526, as we were able to quickly identify the mistake and believe
we have now rectified it. An internal review is usually a more involved
process in which our Compliance and Appeals team analyses the handling of
a request before coming to an independent decision on whether the correct
information was provided; this can take up to 40 days. I hope that we have
now provided you with the files that you were expecting, but if you are
unhappy after reviewing these and wish the Compliance and Appeals team to
consider the handling of the request, please do let us know. I have
reproduced below the appeals information that I included with my previous
response to you:
If you are unhappy with the way your request has been handled and wish to
make a complaint or request a review of our decision, please write to the
Compliance and Appeals team at Network Rail, Freedom of Information, The
Quadrant, Elder Gate, Milton Keynes, MK9 1EN, or by email at
[3]ComplianceandAppeals[Network Rail request email]. Your request must be
submitted within 40 working days of receipt of this letter.
If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision. The Information Commissioner (ICO) can be contacted at
Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow,
Cheshire, SK9 5AF or you can contact the ICO through the 'Make a
Complaint' section of their website on this link:
[4]https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/
The relevant section to select will be "Official or Public Information".
If you have any queries or if the information is still not satisfactory
then please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Elliot Palk Information Officer
