Gender mix of primary school staff
Dear Brynaman Primary School
It has long been recognised that ‘Working with children is seen as a predominantly female occupation. Yet male carers have much to offer including acting as positive role models for boys - especially from families where the father is absent.’ (DfEE, DSS and Ministers for Women, 1998)
The Freedom of Education Act 2000 is successfully being used to find out the gender mix of the early years workforce in local communities in Wales in 2016.
Comparisons are being made with figures obtained 5, 15 and 25 years ago.
Please disclose in FTE units:
1/ the numbers of female teachers,
2/ the number of male teachers,
3/ the number of female teaching support staff,
4/ the number of male teaching support staff,
5/ the number of female staff not engaged in teaching or teaching support, and
6/ the number of female staff not engaged in teaching or teaching support.
who were based at Brynaman Primary School on the 1st of June 2016.
Include both full time and part time staff, and (in 5 and 6) staff such as cleaners and canteen staff who are not in direct contact with children. Do not include agency workers or peripatetic practioners.
Thank you for your precious time.
Yours sincerely
Peter D Williams

In an effort to avoid a possible badly configured spam trap, an email, separate from WhatDoTheyKnow, was sent to Phil Fripp, Chair of Governors, informing the Governing Body of their FOI duties and particularly in regard to this request.
