[FOI #89334 email]

UCAS ref. FOI2011-10-12-001

Dear Mr Whelan

I am writing in response to your email dated 12 October 2011 (shown below), a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

Under the Act, public authorities have two duties to individuals requesting information: firstly to confirm whether or not they hold the information requested, and secondly to provide a copy of that information unless one of the exemptions under FOIA applies.

I confirm that the information you have requested is held by UCAS.

The information you seek is published annually on the UCAS website. You can find the figures for 2010/11 at http://www.ucas.com/about_us/media_enqui... The gender figures are at the top of the page. Regarding the figures for the year 2011/12: we do hold this information but it is withheld from disclosure in accordance with the exemption under section 22 FOIA. Our consideration of the applicability of this exemption is as follows:

Section 22 FOIA (Information intended for future publication):
The information you requested is withheld because it will be published on the UCAS website, on the Media Releases page at http://www.ucas.com/about_us/media_enqui... by the of November 2011.

We hope that the information provided answers your query.

But if you are not satisfied with this response or you wish to complain about any aspect of the handling of your request, then you should contact me in the first instance. If informal resolution is not possible and you are still dissatisfied, then you may apply for an internal review. This request should be sent to me at [UCAS request email] and you should include the above UCAS reference number. Please note that any request for an internal review must be made within 40 working days of the date on which the attempt to reach informal resolution has failed.

If you remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you may take your complaint to the Information Commissioner under the provisions of section 50 of the FOIA. Please note that the Information Commissioner will not investigate your case until the UCAS internal review process has been completed. Further details of the role and power of the Information Commissioner can be found on the ICO website at http://www.ico.gov.uk.

Please quote the above UCAS reference number in all correspondence.

Your sincerely
