Dear Mr Tibbitt
In response to your Freedom of Information request dated 19 January 2018 I
have provided the responses to your request below and included some
additional information to provided context.
The Accounts Commission for Scotland was established in 1975 by the Local
Government (Scotland) Act 1973. It is a body of at least six and no more
than 12 members. Members are appointed by Scottish Ministers, following
open recruitment under the public appointments procedures. Ministers also
appoint one of the members to chair the Commission and one to be deputy
chair. The Accounts Commission does not have a board but I have provided
the responses to your question for the Accounts Commission members.
At November 12 2015, there were five women and seven male members of the
Commission and the Chairperson of the Accounts Commission was male.
As at todays date there are five women and six male Commission members and
the current Chairperson is male.
As previously advised the Accounts Commission members are appointed by
Scottish Ministers, following open recruitment under the public
appointments procedures. You should contact the Public Appointments
Committee regarding a formal strategy or policy. Diversity information and
contact details are available on the Public Appointments [1]website
Both male and female members of the Commission are paid exactly the same
remuneration. Only the Chair and Deputy Chair are paid more to reflect the
enhanced role, and it would not matter if these roles were fulfilled by
male of female members. The remuneration for these roles are on page 34 of
Audit Scotland’s 2016/17 [2]annual report.
Yours sincerely
