GEM A101 Admissions statistics

We're waiting for Zahra Aqleem to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Bangor University,

I would be most grateful if you could provide the following statistics for the last 3 A101 Entry Cycles (2020 entry, 2019 entry, 2018 entry).
- Number of places available
- Number of applicants
- Number of interview invites
- Number of offers given
- Number of offers accepted
- Number of places in the waiting list and how many from the waiting list were given offers
- How GAMSAT score is used in the admissions process and the cut off / average scores overall and for each section used

Whilst I realize it is not mandatory of the FoI request to give the following information, I would thoroughly appreciate it if you could shed some light on the following;
- How are students selected for the interview
- How are interview scores calculated
- Whether there is an interview cut off score to receive an offer
- Are there extra places for 2021 entry due to the government initiative to create more medicine places?

Yours faithfully,
Zahra Rizvi

Information Compliance Shared mailbox, Bangor University

Our Ref. FOI2112

Dear Zahra Aqleem,

Further to your request for information below, the University believes that this information is commercially sensitive and therefore exempt information under Section 43(2)(Commercial Interests), Freedom of Information Act 2000. Section 43(2) provides that information is exempt information if its disclosure under this Act would, or would be likely to, prejudice the commercial interests of any person (including the public authority holding it). Having considered the public interest test in relation to this exemption it is the University’s view that on balance the public interest test determines that the information is exempt from release. The University's decision is therefore to withhold the information.

Public Interest Test
Bangor University recognises it’s responsibility under the Freedom of Information Act, and the need for transparency. However, this must be balanced against the public interest in allowing the organisation to protect its commercial information and not place itself at a disadvantage in the competitive market in which it operates. Section 43(2) is a prejudice based exemption, and there is a public interest inherent in avoiding the harm specified. Bangor University considers that prejudice would be likely to occur and would involve an adverse effect on the institution and its ability to operate in a commercially competitive market place.

Please note that the University has a formal complaints procedure. If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision you should write to the University’s Governance & Compliance Office in the first instance ([Bangor University request email]) explaining the grounds for your complaint. In line with guidance from the Information Commissioner’s Office, an appeal request must be submitted within two months of the University’s final response to this Freedom of Information Act request.

Kind regards,
Compliance Team
