Gay cure therapy
Dear Government Equalities Office,
In light of there being talks about outlawing "gay cure therapy" within the UK, followed by a subsequent failure to get the law passed, I am interested to know whether you withhold any statistics on how many "gay cure therapies" were undertaken by health professionals in the year of 2018, and if you hold any information on current policy for health professionals to provide "gay cure therapy" to individuals. I am quite aware that a fair number of churches would perform this procedure, but I do of course understand that this is difficult to regulate and get a grasp of how common this procedure is amongst religious institutions. I am, however, quite aware that health professionals who perform "gay cure therapy" on individuals within the UK still exist; I would really appreciate it if you could help me gain information on how prominent this is. If you have any idea of how prominent this is within religious institutions, I would be very interested to gain this information also, but I do of course understand that this may not be likely. "Gay cure therapy" is a very detrimental procedure, particularly when performed on young LGBT people; as a training secondary teacher, I am desperate to highlight the issue of this damaging procedure being available (particularly to young people), in my best attempt to get it outlawed. Therefore, any information you could give me would be really helpful.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Yours faithfully,
Katy Smith
