Gas explosions and fires
Dear London Fire Commissioner (London Fire Brigade),
Please could you tell me, for each of the last five years, the number of a) gas explosions your fire crews have attended and b) fires where a gas appliance was recorded as the cause of the fire?
Thanks in advance for your time.
Yours sincerely,
Nicholas Donovan

Thank you for your patience,
with kind regards

Dear Nicholas,
Thank you for your freedom of information request, received on 23/05/2021
in relation to the number of gas explosions and fires in the last 5 years.
You enquired about: a) gas explosions your fire crews have attended and b)
fires where a gas appliance was recorded as the cause of the fire.
Our data team have confirmed that there were 39 fires from January 2016 to
June 2021 that were recorded as explosions and the ignition source power
was gas. There were a further 9 non-fire incidents which were described as
‘explosion (no fire)’. Within the period of January 2016 to June 2021, we
recorded 4,437 fires that were ignited by an appliance and the source of
ignition power was gas.
I hope you find this information of use. We have dealt with your request
under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. For more information about this
process please see the guidance we publish about making a request [1]on
our website
Kind Regards
Michelle Essiet

Dear Michelle,
Thanks so much for that prompt reply.
Do you think it might be possible to have that broken down by year please - either financial or calendar, whichever is easier?
Many thanks in advance,
Nick Donovan
