Dear The Coal Authority,

I am hoping that you can help me to understand the information you hold and collect in order to scope a request under the FOI or EIA legislation.

Can you tell me if you conduct continuous or regular measurements of gas emissions from old mines and if so which gases?

It would be helpful if you would consider this to be a request for assistance for my formulation of a FOI request rather than a request itself.

Yours faithfully,

Joe Turner

Dear Coal Authority,

Thank you for your assistance, I would like to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 or Environmental Information Regulation 2004:

1. The grid references of all monitoring points referred to in your reply between Crumlin and Risca. Thus should include all your monitoring points for the ex coal workings in Crumlin, Celynen North and Celynen South, Prince of Wales in Abercarn, the Cwmcarn collieries, the New Risca Pit near Wattsville, the Blackvein colliery in Risca and any other measuring points you have in the near vicinity.

2. The measured raw data collected for methane, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulphide at all of your measuring points in the area described above for the last two years

3. Any results of additional modelling or any reports produced from the above data relating to the emissions of these gases.

Please consider this a new request under the FOI legislation.

Yours sincerely,

JN Turner
