REQUEST FOR INFORMATION - REFERENCE FOI 9406

I am writing in respect of your recent enquiry (detailed below) for
information held by the Authority under the provisions of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000. Please find our response below.

1.Please can you supply the number of gambling venues / establishments
that are licenced for each ward of the City for the following years:
2010/11
2011/12
2012/13

As the Gambling Act 2005 came into force on 1st September 2007 we have
included in the attached spread sheet details of all Gambling Premises
Licences granted since the Act came into force on sheet / tab 1 and the
details of those licences first granted during the financial years (1st
April - 31st March) shown below on sheets / tabs 2, 3 & 4 respectively.

2. For each of the years above please provide the costs of the following

2(a) & (b) Operating & Personal Management Licences are issued by the
Gambling Commission NOT Local Authorities please re-direct this question
of your FOI Enquiry to: Gambling Commission, Victoria Square House,
Victoria Square, Birmingham B2 4BP

2(c) please see attached documents confirming the annual review of all
Gambling Act 2005 fees by the authority's former Licensing Committee for
the financial years 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13 respectively as
requested.

3. How many licences have been refused or revoked for the years above?

The authority's Finance Manager has confirmed that the annual costs of the
Enforcement Team is not currently recorded against specific areas of
licensing (e.g. Gambling Act 2005).  I am therefore only able to confirm
the total cost of the Licensing Enforcement Team for conducting compliance
visits etc. in respect of all application / licence types administered by
the General Licensing Section, which includes the Licensing Act 2003 and a
range of other statutes.

Councillors are elected to the authority's Licensing & Public Protection
Committee and associated Sub Committees on an annual basis.

Whilst officers recall some Councillors attending the above course on 22nd
October 2008 there are no formal records to confirm their attendance.  The
Councillors who attended may no longer be elected members and / or no
longer sit on the aforementioned Committees.

 When applications are referred to the aforementioned Committees for
determination the elected members are guided on the legislation by the
content of the Committee report, the authority's Statement of Gambling
Licensing Principles, the Licensing Officer presenting the hearing and the
Committee Lawyer.

7. How many officers have had the relevant training?

See response to Question 6 / table above.
