Gain or loss of City Council managed trees within Carlisle City District during the last 5 years
Dear Carlisle City Council,
I would like to determine whether there has been the gain or loss of council managed trees within Carlisle District during the last 5 years, and whether there has been any increase of tree planting year on year. Basically I want to know whether the trees that you have planted is greater or less than the trees died and you have cut down each year for the last 5 years.
Therefore for each year between 2018 and 2022 inclusive can you tell me:
1. How many trees have been planted as part of the Council's regular tree planting programme?
2. How many trees have been planted from one off additional funding programmes? e.g. Funding from Woodland Trust or others
3. How many trees have been cut down or removed from council land due to disease, old age or safety reasons?
4. How many trees have been fallen over due to storms or other weather conditions?
Please note that a similar request has been made recently to another council and has been responded to satisfactorily, so I expect no problems with this information to be forthcoming from Carlisle.

Response
In accordance with Regulation 12(4)(a) of the Environmental Information
Regulations 2004, this information cannot be provided as it is not held by
the Council. The Council does not record the number of trees that have
been planted as part of a tree planting programme or by specific funding.
Furthermore, we are unable to provide a definitive number for trees that
have been felled or those that have been lost to storm damage. In
considering your request we have identified data relating to standard
trees that have have been planted and provide these figures below. Please
note the Council has also planted a significant number of ‘whips’ however
we do not keep records on these numbers.
2021/22 - 71 trees planted
2020/21 - 119 trees planted
2019/20 - 423 trees planted
2018/19 - 229 tree planted
