Dear Jesus College, Cambridge,

I would like to request the following information for the G100 Mathematics/Maths with Physics course, for the application cycles of 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 (To clarify, 2021 application cycle would refer to applicants applying in 2020 for entry in 2021 or deferred entry in 2022):

1. The total number of conditional offer holders (applicants who had received an offer for G100 at Jesus and had STEP as a condition of their offer) who took STEP.
2. The number of conditional offer holders (as defined above) who met the STEP condition of their offer.
3. The number of conditional offer holders (as defined above) who missed their STEP condition but were still admitted to Jesus, or another college, for G100.
4. The number, if any, of students who were admitted to Jesus for G100 through the August Reconsideration Pool.

Yours faithfully,

Ms L. Tan

Freedom of Information, Jesus College, Cambridge

Dear Ms Tan

Thank you for your request. I am sorry that there has been a slight delay in responding.

Please find below the answers to your questions:

1. All students who are made an offer for Mathematics / Mathematics with Physics are required to sit STEP, though some apply having already taken these examinations, and thus this would not officially form part of their offer.

2. The College does not keep a record of this specific fact. Detail about how the STEP is marked and how grades are awarded can be found here: https://www.admissionstesting.org/for-te.... An Explanation of Results is included for each year going back to 2007.

3 & 4 The numbers involved with Questions 3 and 4 are small and therefore the College considers that disclosure will compromise the anonymity of the applicants. However, both the August Reconsideration Pool this year, and Adjustment Pool in the years previously also run alongside our Summer Pool. There is a graph on the University website which indicates the number of students taken through the Summer Pool system, but it does not specify the STEP grades of these students. The graph allows users to search for a course at a College (i.e. Mathematics at Jesus College) for the past 5 years. https://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.u... This page is a fairly comprehensive guide to statistics at University level for each year and might be of interest to you.

There is detailed information about applying for Maths at Jesus here https://www.jesus.cam.ac.uk/subjects/mat...

Further details about making a request to the College, including your rights if you are not satisfied with our response may be found at https://www.jesus.cam.ac.uk/college/abou... Please note that should you wish to request an internal review this must be done within 40 working days of receipt of this response.
