Funding the costs of the Litigation and Settlement
Dear Post Office Limited,
With regard to the funding of the substantial costs of the recent litigation and settlement I note that you have previously declined to answer previous FOI requests on this issue on the grounds that they have not requested recorded information.
According to recent reports, POL have incurred substantial legal costs of approximately £100m plus the settlement figure of some £58m in the recent GLO Litigation.
That money must have come from somewhere.
I would like to know where it came from.
a) did it come from a money tree?
b) out of thin air?
c) a loan perhaps?
d) from working capital?
No need to answer the above as they weren't really questions - rather options I would like to investigate further.
No - my FOI request needs to be for recorded information so:
a) please provide me with details, including emails and written requests, to the Government for additional funding to cover the costs of the litigation and settlement.
b) please provide me with details of any applications POL have made to third party sources of funding, such as banks etc, to cover the expenses incurred in the litigation.
c) please provide me with details of any application POL have made to EU State Aid regulators for permission to obtain funding specifically to meet the costs of the litigation
d) please provide me with details of signatories to the request for additional funding (i.e. they have signed something so it must be recorded?)
Why do you make it so difficult to extract answers to matter such as these that are of public interest? That's not an FOI request but I would be delighted to know the answer,
CC: Rachel Reeves MP, Jacob Rees-Mogg MP, Boris PM,
Yours faithfully,
Tim McCormack
