Funding for the 'Christmas lights switch on' event

George Nixon made this Freedom of Information request to Preston City Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Preston City Council,

Due to a disparity on your website, could you confirm the date of the ‘Christmas lights switching-on’ event? (The website lists the date on one page as the 20th and as the 21st on another page).

Furthermore, would it be possible to see how much money Preston City Council has used to fund this occasion?

Could I also find out if there are any other sources of funding and how much have they have spent on this in comparison?

And could I see a breakdown of what specific items/services Preston City Council's money was spent on (if any)?

And lastly, how is any spending for this event by the Council justified?

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

George Nixon

Dear Mr. Nixon,

Further to your email I can confirm that the Christmas lights switch on event is on the 20th December and I apologise for the error on the website.

Please could you clarify whether you are asking about the costs of the event itself or the cost of the actual Christmas lights or both?

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. Ashcroft

Dear Trish Ashcroft,

Thank you for your reply, however I would appreciate some elucidation.

You said "Preston City Council has spent £34,830 on the Christmas lights", could you please clarify whether £34,830 is the total cost of the Christmas lights this year?

If the Christmas lights costed more than £34,830, who else paid for them?

Yours sincerely,

George Nixon

Trish Ashcroft, Preston City Council

Dear Mr. Nixon,

I can confirm that the sum of £34,830 is the total cost of the Christmas lights this year. This includes the installation of the lights, relamping, the Christmas tree, the installation of the crib at the end of November and the energy used whilst the lights are on.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. Ashcroft
