Funding for ABA Therapy

We're waiting for Claire Benson to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Redbridge Borough Council,

Please could you tell me the number of children who has a personal budget awarded through their EHCP to be spent on privately sourced ABA therapy for ASD?

How many of these children was awarded this by having to go to tribunal?

How much is the average amount that has been awarded?

I note that similar questions were asked around 18 months ago, and the reply was that you didn't have these numbers.
If that is still the case, could you please explain why, as other local authorities were able to calculate this and reply with exact numbers.

Yours faithfully,

Claire Benson

Dear Children's Services FOI,

Thank you for your reply.

Could you confirm if the figure £25,650 is per child?

Similar questions were asked to mine in June 2015, whereby the answers were that 7 were receiving ABA therapy and 3 of which were a result of tribunal.
Could you please explain how these numbers now differ?

If ABA has not been given through a personal budget has it been given through Part 3 Educational School provision in their EHCP?

For ABA that has been given without tribunal, on what basis is it given?

Yours sincerely,

Claire Benson

Children's Services FOI, Redbridge Borough Council

Dear Ms Benson

Thank you for your email of 20 July and I apologise for the time it has taken for me to collate the response to your further questions, including locating the earlier FOI request you referred to. The answers to your questions are as follows:

Q. Could you confirm if the figure £25,650 is per child?

A. This figure is the cost for both pupils, so the average cost will be £12,825 per child.

Q. Similar questions were asked to mine in June 2015, whereby the answers were that 7 were receiving ABA therapy and 3 of which were a result of tribunal.

A. The earlier question did not relate specifically to those with personal budgets, hence the different figures.

Q. If ABA has not been given through a personal budget has it been given through Part 3 Educational School provision in their EHCP?

A. Yes (both Statements).

Q. For ABA that has been given without tribunal, on what basis is it given?

A. Not applicable.

Please contact [1][email address] if you have any queries or concerns. If you are unhappy with the outcome of your request, you may ask for an internal review. Please contact the Information Officer at [2][Redbridge Borough Council request email] or Town Hall, PO Box 2, High Road, Ilford, Essex, IG1 1DD within 20 working days, who will arrange an internal review of your case.

Dear Children's Services FOI,

Thank you.

So could you please confirm in total how many children are receiving ABA therapy which is included both through their EHCP (not through a personal budget, which you have already confirmed figures for)for both a home and school programme.

For those receiving through their EHCP how many of those were a result of tribunal.

Yours sincerely,

Claire Benson
