Funding comparison Carrington Relief Road v Public Transport Improvements
Dear Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council,
The GM Transport Strategy 2040, and the associated Transport Delivery Plan, suggests that there is a commitment to deliver a new road (called the Carrington Relief Road) in this area. There are no documented commitments to public transport improvements. Please can you confirm the following information:
• The spend to date on the Carrington Relief Road (and from where funded - public sector/private sector)
• The planned future spend on the Carrington Relief Road (and from where funded - public sector/private sector)
• Any planned (one-off) spend to improve public transport services - not the new road(s) that buses will travel along but investment in new services themselves, there seems to be no commitment to introducing trains or trams to this area but please confirm this (and from where funded - public sector/private sector)
• The current annual spend/investment in public transport services in Warburton, Partington and Carrington (and from where funded - public sector/private sector)
• The planned future annual spend/investment in public transport services in Warburton, Partington and Carrington (and from where funded - public sector/private sector)
Yours faithfully,
Gaye Fletcher

Cost Implications for Warburton Residents
There is no documentation held by the Council that addresses this issue.
However we can advise that should the costs of the Carrington relief Road
change or increase, there would be no special cost implications for
Warburton Residents. The Costs would be a matter for the Council as a
whole to address – and so the implications would be the same for all
residents of the Borough.
Partington Railway Line
Reference was made in the Scrutiny Committee to the fact that the railway
line through the area was in use until the 1980’s and that there remained
the potential for its eventual re-opening. The line is still controlled by
Network Rail. Reference to the use of the line can be found in TFGM
documents:

It is also mentioned in the supporting evidence for New Carrington in the
‘places for Everyone’ Plan:

Kate Green MP also supported the bid for feasibility funding to look at
the potential of the railway line. The following press story gives some
further detail:
