Full registration for Iraqi medical graduates with local full Registration and Certificate of Completion of Pregraduate Internsthip
Dear General Medical Council,
I am graduate of a medical school in Iraq, specifically Hawler Medical University, and we have underwent a year long pre-graduate internship in which 47 weeks where rotatary clinical placements with direct patient interaction and atleast 3 months in both general surgery and medicine. In addition to the 47 weeks, we get a 5 week leave at the end in which we have an official exam period to end the year long internship. After successfully passing this internship period, we receive our ceritifcate of completion alongside our PMQ ceritificate and become eligible to be fully registered with our medical authority.
According to the GMC website guidance, it seems acceptable, but I wanted to reach out and ask in advance to keep myself informed as I aim to apply for GMC registration soon enough.'
Yours faithfully,
Dr Lam

Dear Alex Mason,
I would like a clarification if possible as to why that's the case. After we finish our internship, we receive full registration to practice in order to start our training positions in the various teaching hospitals according to the local pathway.
Our internship involves working 6 days a week, with on-calls and patient care involved, and it ended with an examination period in order to receive the degree ceritificate. Is there a specific reason as to why this isn't enough according to the websites guideline, is there something else that needs to be included?
Yours sincerely,
Dr Lami
