Jan Lumsden, Companies House

Dear Ms Bartlett Quintanilla

With reference to your email 17 February 2015.

You have requested a full copy of the database as held by Companies House,
I assume you mean our public register.

If I may explain, there are approximately 3 million live companies on the
register and each company will contain historical data.  Companies House
received over 8 million documents during 2014 relating to these companies;
therefore the register contains a vast amount of information.

Because the register is available to the public by undertaking a search
via our website on Gov.UK, I must refuse your request. Under section 21 of
the Freedom of Information Act 2000 any information that is reasonably
accessible to the applicant, albeit on payment of a fee, is exempt
information under the Act.

Through our Products and Services, we offer company information as bulk
data and images; however these products do attract a fee.  For your
information I have inserted a link to Companies House fees where you can
review the bulk data that is provided and the fee associated with that
product.

Companies House does offer free data products that may provide the
information you require.  Our free data products can be accessed via the
following link:

[2]https://www.gov.uk/government/organisati...

I appreciate that I have not provided the information requested but if I
can be of any further assistance please let me know.

As your request has been considered under the freedom of information
legislation, I am required to inform you that if you are unhappy with the
result of your request for information you may request an internal review
within two calendar months of the date of this email.  Any requests for
such a review should be addressed to me and I will ensure that it is
forwarded to a senior member of Companies House who has had no previous
involvement in this case and who will undertake the review.  Please
remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are then not content with the outcome of the internal review, you
have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision.  The Information Commissioner can be contacted at; Information
Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9
5AF.

Yours sincerely
