Dear Marianne

Thank you for your information request received on 24 January 2024, where
you asked the following:

1.   How much money has the NDA/UK Government paid to Fujitsu for the ATOM
contracts for nuclear installations since 2001.

2.  Is ATOM accounting and tracking the Nuclear Inventory for the whole of
the UK Nuclear Wastes.  If not where are the wastes ATOM is accounting and
tracking?

3.  Is ATOM/Fujitsu accounting and tracking the whole of the Nuclear
Inventory for proposed Geological Disposal?

Please find below the information that the NDA holds in relation to your
request:

1.   How much money has the NDA/UK Government paid to Fujitsu for the ATOM
contracts for nuclear installations since 2001.

The NDA has not contracted with Fujitsu for the ATOM contracts.

Magnox Limited (a company registered in England under Company number
02264251), and Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (a company registered in
Scotland under Company number SC307493), now both trading as Nuclear
Restoration Services (NRS), do have ATOM related spend. As a subsidiary of
the NDA they are subject to FOI/EIR legislation in their own right. Please
use this link to submit a request directly to them:
[1][email address]

Sellafield Ltd (a company registered in England under Company
number 1002607) also held a contract with Fujitsu prior to 2014, after
which the contract was taken over by National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL). As
a subsidiary of the NDA Sellafield Ltd are subject to FOI/EIR legislation
in their own right. Please use this link to submit a request directly to
them: [2][email address]

Further information on submitting an FOI request to NNL is available via
the following link: [3]Freedom of Information - National Nuclear
Laboratory (nnl.co.uk)

2a.  Is ATOM accounting and tracking the Nuclear Inventory for the whole
of the UK Nuclear Wastes.

Please be aware that the NDA group does not manage the whole of the UK
nuclear wastes.

The ATOM software is not used for the purpose of developing (including
accounting and tracking) the UK Radioactive Waste and Materials Inventory
(the ‘UK Inventory’).

2b. If not where are the wastes ATOM is accounting and tracking?

ATOM is used for accountancy of material at NRS sites. NDA does not hold
the requested information and we suggest that you contact NRS directly via
[4][email address

3.  Is ATOM/Fujitsu accounting and tracking the whole of the Nuclear
Inventory for proposed Geological Disposal?

The ATOM software is not used for the purpose of developing the Inventory
for Geological Disposal (IGD). FOI requests relating to the IGD should be
forwarded to Radioactive Waste Management (a company registered in England
under Company number 08920190), now trading as Nuclear Waste Services
(NWS). As a subsidiary of the NDA they are subject to FOI/EIR legislation
in their own right. Please use this link to submit a request directly to
NWS: [5][email address]
