Freight Paths Through Aberdeen
Dear Network Rail Limited,
I would like a list of all paths allocated to freight traffic between Stonehaven station (STN) and Dyce station (DYC). The list should include:
* Train describer/head code as used by the signalling system.
* Allocated days/times and an indication of how heavily the path has been used (e.g. every time, half the time, occasionally) during the most recent 12 month period. Please provide the dates used for this calculation. If the 12 months cover multiple recording periods please split your response accordingly.
* What the train carries (just loco, empty chemical tanks, containers etc).
* How many wagons form the train (a minimum, maximum and typical length).
* Where it came from and where it is going to (if a train is merged/split at any point outside the area specified then please use the point of merging/splitting and list all origins/destinations separately).
Yours faithfully,
Robert Gauld

Dear FOI,
Thank you for those pointers to other sources of information, I think a combination of the working timetable (which I've just fetched) and the information you said that you could supply would allow me to get what I'm after. So please could I have the following details for the freight trains which actually ran between Stonehaven station and Dyce station between Sunday 21st May 2017 and Saturday 9th December 2017:
• Headcode
• Operators type ( I.e. Ballast)
• Date
• Time
• Origin
• Destination
• Lateness
If possible could it be provided in a form easily accessed by a spreadsheet (for example a CSV file or an ODF spreadsheet file)?
Yours sincerely,
Robert Gauld

Dear FOI,
Hi, I think a miscommunication may have caused some data I was after to be excluded. Please, can you either confirm that I'm mistaken or provide it. Looking at the working timetable shows a number of paths which are allocated but not included in the data, these paths either start or finish within the requested area (making me think that you thought I only wanted services using the whole length of the specified track). An example being 3Q56 which runs from Clayhills to Dundee.
Yours sincerely,
Robert Gauld

3Q56 isn't a freight path, it's a Network Rail test train path that will only run a limited number of times each year, if you want these including I would suggest you will need to make a new request specifying this. Additionally there may be other Class 3 trains but these could Empty Coaching Stock movements which, again, are not freight paths.
