Freemasonry in the police
Dear Devon and Cornwall Constabulary,
I gather that you do not presently require any Freemasons amongst your staff to register such membership, and that you expect that any conflicts of interest should be declared if, as and when they may arise.
Have there ever been instances where officers (or civilian staff) have notified senior officers of a conflict of interest between their police duties and membership of any Freemason Lodge? I will consider your advice as to what period of time my request might reasonably cover.
Yours faithfully,
tim todd

Dear Tim,
I understand the response. They looked in a central database and found nothing. There is no requirement for a manager to put the information to be in a central database.
They added (helpfully I think) that they could ask individual managers (defined as Sergeant and above) but it would be a big job.
Perhaps if you want to pursue it further, you could try ask an individual police force and see if they can find anything.

Hello John
I perfectly well understand the reply from Devon and Cornwall police even though it was 'padded out' with some unnecessary comment.
I have responded to them thanking them and adding that I regard the matter as closed.

The answer seems to be none that they know of. I don't know where the idea of contacting every sergeant and above came from! Had there been any declarations I would have expected a central record not hanging around amongst the supervisory ranks.
