Freedom of Information Request – Teacher Retention and Turnover Data
Dear Scottish Government,
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. Specifically, I would like to request data related to teacher retention, turnover, and the reasons why teachers are leaving the profession in Scotland.
Please provide the following information:
1. Teacher Retention and Turnover Data:
Data on teacher retention rates and turnover (attrition rates) in Scotland from 1st January 2018 to the present, broken down by:
• Permanent teachers
• Fixed-term teachers
• Supply teachers
2. Reasons for Leaving the Profession:
Any available reports or analysis that identify the reasons for teachers leaving the profession or having difficulty securing permanent employment, particularly in relation to:
• The availability of permanent positions
• Working conditions
• Pay or financial incentives
• The availability of supply work
If possible, please provide this data for each academic year from 2018 to the present.
Should the cost of processing this request exceed the statutory limit, please advise me on how I can narrow the scope to reduce the cost. I am happy to consider any suggestions to help facilitate the request.
Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Scottish Teachers for Permanence
