Freedom of Information request - Directive 2009/52/EC
Dear Department for Business, Innovation and Skills,
I refer to the above Directive Providing for Sanctions Against
Employers of Illegally Staying Third Country Nationals.
I understand that neither the UK or Ireland opted into this
Directive as provided for under Article 3 of the Protocol on the
Position of the United Kingdom and Ireland annexed to the Treaty on
the European Union and the Treaty Establishing the European
Community.
My questions are:
1. What were the reasons for the UK not opting into this Directive?
2. Whether the UK had any objections to Ireland opting into the
Directive?
Yours faithfully,
michael flood
