Dear Shropshire Council,

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following information regarding the provision of real time audio-visual announcements at bus stops within your council's area:

1. Total Number of Bus Stops:
The total number of bus stops in your council area.

2. Number of Bus Stops fitted with real time audio information systems:
The number of bus stops that are equipped with audio information.

3. Number of Bus Stops with real time visual information:
The number of bus stops that are equipped with visual announcements.

4. Implementation Details:
a. A brief description of the criteria or policy used to determine which bus stops are equipped with audio and/or visual announcements.
b. A brief description of the requirements of audio and/or visual announcements, as defined by the local transport authority.

5. Future Plans:
Any future plans or strategies for increasing the coverage of audio and/or visual announcements at bus stops.

Good morning Tom,

 

Please see the below responses in relation to your Freedom of Information
request regarding Audio Visual Announcements at Bus Stops.

 

 1. Total number of bus stops 3090 recorded stops in Naptan of which 3037
are active.

 

 2. Currently, no stops in Shropshire are fitted with audio passenger
information channels.

 

 3. Currently, no stops in Shropshire are currently operational with
visual / audio announcements (some stops/shelters across the county
utilised visual real time displays but these were disconnected due to
funding)

 

 4. A.) and B.) we currently don’t have a written criteria for audio /
visual bus stops. This is something we would like to explore on
receipt of funding through our Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).

 

 5. We are actively investigating the feasibility subject to securing
appropriate funding of overhauling the network whereby designated hubs
would be equipped with audio / visual information displays while the
remainder, intermediate stops would be equipped with a QR code or NFC
cases enabling passengers to receive next departures and other
relevant information on their smart phones.
