Freedom of Information Request - Audio Visual Announcements at Bus Stops
Dear Bedford Borough Council,
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following information regarding the provision of real time audio-visual announcements at bus stops within your council's area:
1. Total Number of Bus Stops:
The total number of bus stops in your council area.
2. Number of Bus Stops fitted with real time audio information systems:
The number of bus stops that are equipped with audio information.
3. Number of Bus Stops with real time visual information:
The number of bus stops that are equipped with visual announcements.
4. Implementation Details:
a. A brief description of the criteria or policy used to determine which bus stops are equipped with audio and/or visual announcements.
b. A brief description of the requirements of audio and/or visual announcements, as defined by the local transport authority.
5. Future Plans:
Any future plans or strategies for increasing the coverage of audio and/or visual announcements at bus stops.

I refer to your recent enquiry for information held by the Council.
Under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, the authority must
state whether or not the information exists and I confirm that we do hold
the information requested.
Please find the information you requested below.
Request:
1. Total Number of Bus Stops: The total number of bus stops in
your council area.
Response: There are 1118 NapTAN bus stops in the Borough.
2. Number of Bus Stops fitted with real time audio information
systems: The number of bus stops that are equipped with audio information.
Response: 167 stops have QR codes which, once scanned can provide audio
announcements.
3. Number of Bus Stops with real time visual information: The
number of bus stops that are equipped with visual announcements.
Response: 63 bus stops have RTPI screens.
4. Implementation Details:
a. A brief description of the criteria or policy used to determine
which bus stops are equipped with audio and/or visual announcements.
Response: There is current no set criteria for this within the Borough.
b. A brief description of the requirements of audio and/or visual
announcements, as defined by the local transport authority.
Response: There are no documented requirements for visual of audio
announcements at bus stops.
5. Future Plans: Any future plans or strategies for increasing the
coverage of audio and/or visual announcements at bus stops.
Response: We are engaging with a company to implement live RTPI
information and journey planning, via mobile devices, at stops with in the
Borough.
