Free school transport for low income families

The request was successful.

Dear Lincolnshire County Council,

I would like to know how many children between the ages of 8 and 16 in Lincolnshire are eligible for free home to school transport on the grounds that their family is in receipt of the maximum level of working tax credit?

Yours faithfully,

Andrea Needham

Please find our response to your request below:

Request:

I would like to know how many children between the ages of 8 and 16 in
Lincolnshire are eligible for free home to school transport on the grounds
that their family is in receipt of the maximum level of working tax
credit?

Response:

There are on our records 392 children in the age group that receive free
transport on low income grounds. These are all 11-16 year olds.

The Council disapplies the walking distance of three miles for 8-11 year
olds and uses a two miles walking distance for all primary children, and
so all primary children irrespective of income receive free transport to
their nearest school if it is over two miles.

Please note that the criteria for the award in secondary education is also
that the school is one of the nearest three over two miles and less than
six. Because of this, many applicants do not qualify because the school
they have chosen is not nearer than six miles.

Lincolnshire County Council believes that the response outlined above
satisfies your request for information under the Freedom of Information
Act and that all information that can be made available to you has been
provided.

You are entitled to an internal review of the administration of your
request. You can request an internal review by contacting
[4][email address]. Should you remain dissatisfied following the
outcome of the review you can submit a formal complaint to the Information
Commissioner's Office. Further information can be obtained from their
website [5]www.ico.gov.uk.

Once again, thank you for your enquiry.

Yours sincerely

Dean Allen
