We refer to your email dated 29 January 2024 which contained a request for
information as set out in italics below.  Following consideration of your
request, in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I respond
to each point as follows:

What is being done to specifically monitor food being discarded by
students who do not finish their meals?

The cooks monitor daily how much food waste is left each day as this is
separated when pupils clear their plates, also during monthly service
checks by area supervisors the amount of pupil waste is recorded.

It isn’t possible in secondary schools to monitor food waste as the pupils
do not stay in the school dining hall to eat.

have the right to request a review of the Council’s response to your

Firstly, please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to you. 
The Council now responds as follows:

Do you have the data available on how much has been wasted across the
county for the academic year 2022/23?

For the 2022-2023 school year, the local authority did not monitor the
volume of food waste from school meals, therefore the Council does not
hold the requested information.
